I nearly always stop when traveling by this tree, which is on the side of Highway 101 between Hopland and Cloverdale in Northern California. I’ve got hundreds of photographs of it, some in color, some not, some in full bloom, some in the dead of Winter. This day I actually got out my tripod and used my Nikon D-200, though I am generally too lazy to deal with either.
The rays were not visible to my naked eye and perhaps fortified since I did not use a lens cap even though I was shooting towards the sun. In any case, my errors worked out very well for me. This photograph won first place in the county photography exhibition, garnering me an Adobe Creative Suite! Sweet!
